Oil on canvas

Yellow bordered painting

This is a painting built up using my process of layering abstract and representational forms which alternate between opacity and transparency. I have used a cool but relatively saturated palette, reflecting the strong contrasts between sunlit and shadowed areas at high noon. Although the forms and perspective are not fully defined, it aims to place the viewer in a cool, shadowed space observing the heat of high noon. I generated the source material by inputting some existing paintings of mine into an artificial intelligence model and asking it to generate new versions. I then deconstructed this imagery to create a new painting, and added a final layer to pull the painting into a more representational form. Deconstructing AI imagery as part or all of creating a painting is often part of my process and inspiration. As with many of my other works, I’ve used a square composition as it reflects our age of social media and technology giants influencing how we consume images.
