Welcome to my art: exploring what it means to be human through the medium of oil paint…
I hope you enjoy looking through my work delving into the realms of technology, theology and memory: subjects I find intriguing because they touch our past, present and future as humans.
I’m fascinated in the process of painting and how it can simultaneously represent the real and the abstract. It’s a way for me to synthesise complex information, whether that’s the personal or the universal. I use memories, technological impacts, and biblical and theological narratives as inspiration. I deconstruct these into fragments and motifs that I re-assemble into a physical item (a painting) that serves as a representation of the human experience or the intangible. Layering is a central part of my painting process and symbolises the complex nature of humanity.
We perceive and experience the world differently so I aim for a balance between abstraction and representation in relation to the forms, motifs and spatial perspective that I use to build my paintings - while I’ve constructed a view that is real to me, I want to leave room for others to interpret a story as they see fit. Hearing such different interpretations of my paintings from viewers is so interesting to me as this reflects perfectly our innate imagination as humans.
Thanks for visiting. I’m an artist based in South East London. After a degree in economics and several years in professional services, I returned to my first love of art and went back to school to retrain as a painter.
