Oil on canvas

This is a painting built up using my process of layering abstract and representational forms which alternate between opacity and transparency. Interaction of colour and choice of pigments is important to me in my paintings and here I have used a cool but relatively saturated palette. Although the forms and perspective remain undefined, it aims to place the viewer in light filled space reflecting the aquamarine palette of the coast. I built up the first few layers intuitively and for the final layer I deconstructed a kitsch image I generated in an artificial intelligence model. Deconstructing AI imagery as part or all of creating a painting is often part of my process and inspiration. In this instance I used prompts inspired by a memory of time out with family to generate an image, which I then took apart and reassembled as a human. I use a square very often for compositions as it reflects our age of social media and technology giants influencing how we consume images.
